When Kelsey and I started talking about our honeymoon and 1 year anniversary trip, we were very budget conscious. We spent more than anticipated on our wedding in Las Vegas (we wouldn’t have traded it for the world – it was the most amazing wedding ever), so we felt we needed to be smart about how much we spent on our honeymoon. I did a ton of research on all-inclusive locations, but everything seemed to come in well above budget. We had resigned ourselves to believe that we would need to delay our trip due to the cost, but then we started watching Love is Blind on Netflix. I did a google search for their location and discovered that they were staying at TRS Turquesa in the Dominican Republic. I decided to do some research (expecting it to also be well outside of our budget) and to my surprise, it was within our budget and available on our honeymoon week. I booked it immediately! After booking it, I began to research other all-inclusive vacation destinations, in the Dominican Republic, Mexico, and elsewhere. Realizing that I could find somewhere within budget, I became obsessed with finding other deals similar to, or better than, this.
I found several locations similar to ours, within budget and with similar amenities, but ultimately we decided to stick with TRS Turquesa. This was due to a few factors, which I have detailed below.
#1 – We really liked the adults only factor of TRS – it’s not that we don’t like kids, but when I’m relaxing in the pool, I don’t really want kids cannonballing and splashing right next to me, so the adults-only option became a priority.
#2 – We really liked the food options. Yes, the reviews on the food are mixed. Some people love it and some people hate it, but food is subjective in that way, so we didn’t put too much weight on the reviews. We do tend to be kind of picky about food, so the fact that they have 15+ restaurants was a definite positive in our book.
#3 – We were really excited about the beach and pools at this resort. They both look gorgeous and seem high quality compared to other locations in this price range. After reading reviews about the resort, we were sold that this location had everything we were looking for – including white sand beaches, multiple pool options, swim-up suites, swim-up bars, and a large section on Bavaro Beach with plenty of beach chairs.
#4 – Everything I read about the staff was phenomenal. I have yet to read one review about the staff that was negative. Everyone speaks about how amazing the butlers are and how the bartenders know them by name after day 1. With all the people talking about how great of an experience they had and how they felt like VIP’s throughout their time at this resort, we were convinced. After all, that is the kind of service I want and look forward to at an all-inclusive resort.
#5 – The variety… Everything I read talked about how cool it is that there are so many options at TRS, due to it sharing a location with it’s sister properties – the Grand Palladium resorts. When we go on vacation, we don’t want to be bored, so having options of different things to do and experience is crucial to us being able to enjoy ourselves. As far as I can tell, there are a lot of fun activities and places to explore at TRS and Grand Palladium, so that helped push us over the edge on our decision.
With all of this being said, I think we made the right choice for us at this time. I can’t wait to get to TRS and see for ourselves if we chose correctly! I will definitely write a full review (maybe broken into parts) when we return from our trip, so stay tuned for that. I can’t wait to tell you all about our experience.
