Growing up, I didn’t get to travel a lot. We didn’t have a lot of money, so we did a lot of camping. That was my favorite time ever as a kid, and I don’t regret or have any negative feelings about not being able to travel when I was younger. In fact, it’s quite the contrary. I think much of the excitement that I feel when I get to travel stems from my lack of travel when I was younger.
As I got older, I got to travel more. I went to Chicago with my mom when I was 18. Then I went to Panama City and Miami when I was in college, and went on a cruise for my college graduation when I was 21. I traveled to Atlanta when I was 26 for a friend’s wedding. I went on a road trip to Yellowstone with my dad when I was 28, and I went on another cruise when I was 30. While all of those trips were fun, and I immensely enjoyed each one, I still didn’t catch the “travel bug.”
However, everything changed when I met my wife, Kelsey. After we had been dating for a little while, we decided to go on a trip together. We considered many options, but ultimately landed on Las Vegas. It was exciting – the feeling of sharing that adventure with the love of my life, the excitement of exploring somewhere new, the thrill of the unknown. Everything about it just fueled my desire to travel to more and different places. Money was a limiting factor for us for a while, but that didn’t stop us from going to Vegas once or twice a year. Hotels were free, flights were cheap, and entertainment options were almost endless. Food was expensive, but we had the opportunity to gamble a little bit and pay for our trip. It was a win-win-win. We loved it and honestly fell in love with the city! After a few years of going to Vegas repeatedly, we decided we wanted to take a trip somewhere else, but we couldn’t pick a destination, so we did a Pack-Up & Go trip. They sent us to San Diego, and it was an amazing trip (I’ll talk more about it in another post) which only fueled my desire to travel even more. I proposed to Kelsey in 2021, and we decided to get married in Las Vegas and do a big honeymoon on our 1 year anniversary (somewhere other than Vegas).
So next month – May, 2024, we will travel to the Dominican Republic for our 1 year anniversary and honeymoon trip. I can’t wait to tell and show you all about it, so subscribe and stay tuned! To get the real time stories, photos, and updates, make sure to follow us on social media!
